Government funding will be available for initiatives on Safe Routes to School this autumn. There will be a Safe Routes to School public evening discussion on 14 October. Claire T is organising with £500-ish funds from
Hackney No Through Road Campaign, (not from the council, as was previously
reported). Ideas and contacts to Claire please 0181-520-8161.
Note: Agenda 21 officer Kathryn Johnson has left council and her work is now in limbo.
Douglas reported appreciative response from council to our submission.
Documents on this government initiative have been passed to Claire T for analysis & report back.
Tim has spotted what he thinks would be a good base for a lower Lea cycle hire/activity shop and has been trying to put together a proposal/ business plan. To liaise with Claire T.
Following Neighbourhood Meeting 14 July, the present state of the scheme blocks cars (not cycles) on all roads but Chatsworth and Glyn. LCCiH should support this. Unfortunately there is yet another round of consultation before anything is implemented. This will hold up the measures to incorporate Powerscroft Rd in the LCN, viz: make west end of Powerscroft 2-way (at least for cycles); traffic light at crossing to Clapton Passage.
Discussed whether we like chicanes as a traffic calmer as proposed on Chatsworth at Millfields.
It’s election time. Crispin currently a member. 2 year terms. Everyone looked at their feet / the table / the minutes they were taking.
Our survey of how people travel to central Hackney has been passed to the SRB Heart of Hackney people.
The ‘Cycling deficit’
See last month. Idea is to roughly cost the works required for a decent local cycling infrastructure and compare it with funding actually available.
How to use the ‘Lorraine Bikes the Borough’ movie? The Brox AgitPod can be used to show it: stalls? shows?
21st August. Claire, Dave, Trevor & Lucy took this on. Trevor to organise the AgitPod for the movie.
September meeting again at Lucy’s, 31 Nevill Road, N16, corner of Osterley Road.
Well St surgery available again in October. Pub on the Park also available cheap/free but we would have to move to another day. A close debate and vote led to decision to move to Pub on the Park on first Wednesdays from October.
