As well as Hackney’s copious program of events, neighbouring boroughs are doing their bit too.

WFCC have send us this list of their events:

Cyclist Tea 10th of June

We will be kicking off on the eve of the week on Friday the 10th of June with a cyclist tea on Coppermill Lane between 5pm and 7pm. So if you ride home across the marshes or want to take a little detour we will be serving up free tea, cake and chat. Plus we have the excellent Margaret of Sick Bike Repairs providing Dr Bike services from her mobile repair shop.

Family Bike Club 12th of June

Paul and the Walthamstow Family Bike Club crew will be leading one of their hugely popular rides on Sunday the 12th. This is easily the most popular ride in the borough and the team know all the best cafés for a pit-stop. This family-friendly ride of about 15 miles leaves from the junction of Orford Road/Church Lane at 1pm returning by 5pm.

Bridget’s Evening Ride 14th of June

Bridget will be leading a ride for a couple of hours on Tuesday evening along one of her myriad of quiet pleasant routes in her repertoire. If wanted by the group the ride will probably finish at a local hostelry for some refreshment and time for a chat. The ride leaves from outside Walthamstow Library at 6.30pm.

Hackney Bike Breakfast 15th of June

Every year our neighbours in Hackney put on a free Bike Breakfast in London Fields and we will be leading a short ride down to the event to partake of free croissants, porridge and coffee. The ride leaves the Bakers Arms at 7.30am.

Green Open House Ride 18th of June

Waltham Forest Green Open Homes weekend is an annual event in the borough. Local residents who have undertaken green building projects in their homes open their houses and projects to the public so they can share their knowledge and experience. We will be leading a ride on Saturday that will visit a number of the participants on a circular route. So if you want to learn more about Greening up your home this is a must. The ride will leave from the Hornbeam Café at 11am on Saturday and will return before 5pm

Tour de Waltham Forest 19th of June

Okay so you don’t get a yellow or even a polka dot jersey at the end but it’s still a great way to finish off Bike Week. There will be 3 rides on the day all of which are wonderful ways of exploring the borough. All the rides will be leaving from Leyton Jubilee Park where there will also be a festival of cycling and other things.

The Bronze Ride is about 8km long and leaves the park at 3pm this ride is fully marshalled by Waltham Forest Cycle Campaign and is suitable for all levels of cycling even those new to cycling.

The Silver ride is about 13km in length and leaves the park at 1pm. This ride will also be marshalled by Waltham Forest Cycle Campaign and is mostly off road.

The Gold ride is 40km long, takes in most of the borough and is mostly on road and for more experienced riders. The ride leaves the park at 12noon.

To register for the rides go to the Enjoy Waltham Forest website and follow the links to Tour de Waltham Forest.

We will also have a stall at the event so come over and say “Hi” if you have a chance.
